Australian Girls Who Play Games Youtube Channel
(We’re still working on a name - suggestions welcome)
I’m looking for an excuse to make vlogs especially about video game related things. I feel there is a lack of positive female gamer representation on youtube especially from Australia and think that this channel could be a good opportunity to rectify this, while improving my video skills and hopefully meeting some awesome like minded people.
We’ve all heard and seen the negative comments that women can experience on the internet and it is important to be aware that going on youtube likely means you will subject yourself to these comments. I do not of course believe that it is ok that people behave this way, but they do and they will, so if you don’t want to experience this, I recommend thinking twice about joining our channel.
I was hoping to have a person for each weekday to be contributors, however if we get more interest I see no reason in allowing more people for the weekend, or maybe even having a Cameo type video on a Saturday or something like that. All of this is open for discussion and will probably change when we find out how many people we have. If we come short of the five required then as long as everyone else is happy the channel will go ahead short, and we will continue to search for members.
If you want to be a part of this channel here is what we require from you.
Make and upload a video each week on your assigned day. Let us know which day you prefer so we can work around you. That being said please be flexible enough to give us room to move in allocating days. This day will remain yours unless a day you prefer becomes free or if another contributor is willing to swap.
Of course we understand that life gets in the way sometimes and the occasional missed entry is fair enough. If you know in advance that this is going to happen, then we may be able to make a filler video so please let us know. Continuation of missed videos (without explanation) may mean that you are asked to leave the channel. We don’t want to have to ever be arseholes about any of this, so please let us know if you’re having problems, or if you want to take a hiatus so we can make arrangements to accommodate this.
These videos will be on a topic either chosen by one of us, or a viewer. These topics do not necessarily have to be about video games but it would be good if most of them are. Sometimes these may be about specific games and it is understandable that you may not have played it. That’s fine as well, but you should still make a video regarding the topic to the best of your ability. Be aware that places like EB Games allow you to buy a game and take it back within 7 days for a full refund, and it’s something I do often when writing reviews for vooks.net. We refer to it as EB renting.
Be able to take part in making the ‘crawl’ our channel videos. We can decide on something awesome to do in our crawl later. If you know anyone who could make some unique music for our crawl that’d be awesome too.
Edit your videos. I don’t mean anything fancy, I just want you to be able to put the crawl in front of your video and do some jump cuts. I can help with this initially, but I don’t want to end up editing everyone’s videos, so being able to do your own will be a big plus.
And if you use any music or materials use royalty free stuff. I don’t want to have to be getting people to resubmit things because youtube takes it down. You can find a lot of decent royalty free music out there so use it!
And finally watch the videos of the other members of the channel. We want to be able to give each other feedback on our videos, and also ask each other questions. For example if we’re talking about a video game and I know that you didn’t like the prequel for whatever reason I may say something like ‘I wonder if ‘yourname’ liked this one better than the prequel’ and being able to refer to me in your video gives the overall channel a better sense of togetherness and spreads viewers around a bit more.
If you think you have what it takes to do all this than leave a video response to (The video I’ll probably make tomorrow) showcasing yourself. This video needs to be less than 2 minutes. Tell me what city/state you live in and what game you are currently playing. These videos don’t have to be anything fancy but naturally more entertaining videos will give you an edge if we have a lot of submissions.
Please share and like and reblog and what not, the more people see this the more auditions and the more likely we are to have a good channel instead of a shitty one.
